As the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup returns to Åre on 12–15 March, it also marks the second year of the Nordic Sustainability Arena (NoSA), a platform driving climate action and sustainable solutions for white winters.
“As athletes, snow is our home ground. Over the years, I’ve seen the winters I grew up with change. That’s why NoSA matters. In Slalom, you sometimes lose the line, but you don’t give up. You adjust, refocus and fight your way back to reach the finish. Bringing sport, science and society together gives us that same momentum, the chance to correct our course and protect the future of winter sports and the places we love”, said André Myhrer, Alpine Olympic Gold Medalist.
Initiated and hosted by the World Cup organizer and launched in in 2025, NoSA brings athletes, scientists, business and community leaders dedicated to protecting white winters together.
“The Alpine World Cup is more than a race, it’s a chance to take responsibility. NoSA helps us use this event as a test arena for new ideas and to accelerate change towards a more sustainable future. It adds value for teams, fans and the local community, and gives us an opportunity to work together for the future,” says Olle Danielsson, CEO of Alpine World Cup Åre.
Science at the core and the emotional power of snow
With Stockholm Resilience Centre as research partner, NoSA is grounded in leading science. At the same time, winter sport brings something no other sustainability platform has: a deep emotional connection to snow, mountains and nature.
This combination of scientific insight and emotional resonance strengthens how people understand the urgency and possibility of transformation.
”Snow connects people emotionally to nature, reminding us of its beauty and fragility. NoSA connects a growing community of athletes, scientists, policy makers, local communities and business leaders to take action for protecting snowy winters”, says Per Olsson, Deputy Science Director and Associate Professor at the Stockholm Resilience Centre at Stockholm University.
Leading voices joining NoSA 2026
This year’s program brings together influential voices from sport, science, policy, business and impact leadership, including:
• Carolina Klüft, Heptathlon Olympic Gold Medalist and NoSA:s moderator
• André Myhrer, Alpine Olympic Gold Medalist
• Richard Brisius, Race Chairman, The Ocean Race
• Stefan Krook, entrepreneur and founder of GoodCause Foundation
• Anna Ryott, Nordic Chief Impact Officer EY
• Per Olsson, Deputy Science Director, Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University
• Line Gordon, Director, Stockholm Resilience Centre, Stockholm University
• Johan Kuylenstierna, DG, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency
These cross-sector perspectives reflect NoSA’s core idea: securing the future of snow requires collaboration far beyond the slopes.
